Slander and Libel
A "personal injury" is not always physical. You have a reputation which can also be injured by
an intentional falsehood which is likely to affect the way that your community views you.
Slander is the verbal utterance of such a falsehood; libel occurs when the untruth is published
in written material. Together, these two types of personal injury are known as defamation. Defamation
is a highly specialized area of personal injury law; you would not want to pick an attorney who
practices mostly in car accidents to try your defamation lawsuit.
